With the recent launch of Kanpla Kiosk, we sat down with Toby Bonnett, Head of Innovation at Kanpla, to dig into the thinking behind our newest product.

To get the full story, we caught up with Toby Bonnett to hear what inspired the product, how it works in practice, and what it means for the future of canteen experiences.

What inspired the development of Kanpla Kiosk?

Kanpla Kiosk came from asking a simple question: how do we make ordering food on-site feel as effortless and engaging as ordering from our app, but without requiring your phone? The answer was wasn’t just hardware, it was creating a fully integrated kiosk experience that plugs directly into the Kanpla ecosystem, offering the same functionality and design as the app on the BIG screen!

How does Kanpla Kiosk work in practice?

It’s essentially a plug-and-play touchscreen ordering station that sits directly in the canteen, offering both pre-order and self-checkout flows. Think McDonalds or supermarket style ordering. Customers walk up, browse the live menu, customise their order, and pay - all in a few taps. Oh, and it’s packed with all of our latest features like loyalty, promotions, CO2 and nutritional information.

The real value, though, is hiding inside. The kiosk is directly connected to the same backend as our web and app platforms. That means operators manage one menu, one brand style, one dashboard. It’s all synced in real time, which reduces errors and ensures consistency across every customer touchpoint from digital signage to POS and app.

Who is Kanpla Kiosk built for?

It’s for any contract caterer or facility manager who wants to improve efficiency and customer experience without increasing headcount. We’re seeing it resonate especially well with high-traffic locations like large offices, manufacturing sites, and education - anywhere speed, convenience, and simplicity are key.

But we didn’t just build it for the operators - we built it for the people standing in line. We’ve all been there: it’s 12:00, you’re starving, the queue’s growing, and the person ahead of you is asking a million questions. Kanpla Kiosk shortens that line and makes lunch less stressful for everyone.

How do you see this evolving in the future?

We’re already exploring how to make the kiosk experience even better! Think personalised upsells, favourites re-ordering, and digital marketing opportunities for our of hours.

The kiosk is just one part of a larger vision. We want Kanpla to be the connective tissue of the modern canteen - whether you’re ordering from your phone, your laptop, or a screen on the wall, the experience should be seamless, consistent, and fun for both the customer and the caterer!
